BE A RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER
Always pick up after your dog in public areas. In public places, keep your dog
well behaved and under control. Keep your dog on a leash or under verbal control
when walking in a public area. People appreciate well-mannered dogs that are
under control.
Never let your dog approach a person or dog you don’t know without their
permission. Never let your dog wander around the neighborhood unsupervised. It
is dangerous for the dog and the community.
Respect local dog laws. Keep your dog’s health in check and immunizations
up-to-date. Keep your dog clean and well groomed. Train your dog to avoid
excessive barking. Barking dogs can become a nuisance to the neighborhood. Teach
your dog to accept friendly strangers such as neighbors and delivery people. No
one likes to be greeted by a noisy, snarling dog.
PET SITTING
What better way to have your pet cared for than in surroundings of their home.
They will love being home while you are away and you will feel better about
leaving them where they comfortable. Older pets especially benefit from this
service.
BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TRAINING
Your dog should know the basic obedience commands around the home: Sit, down,
stand, come, heel and stay. Basic obedience training gives you the foundation to
teach you how to teach your dog all of the above commands. You should make it a
plan to practice every day or nearly every day so that you can make progress.
Half an hour a day is ideal but you can make progress with less. In general,
teaching the basic obedience exercises to your dog you will give the command and
show the dog the action until he understands the meaning of the command. You
will also praise or reward the dog for correct behavior and/or correct the dog
for incorrect behavior. The dog learns to associate doing the right thing with
something pleasant (reward or praise) and/or doing something wrong with
something unpleasant (a correction or the word “wrong”.) Proper timing is
important in dog training. Your voice is a training tool. Learn to use it: A
firm tone for a correction, and soft tone for calm praise, a lively cheerful
tone for enthusiastic praise.
PATIENCE & PERSISTENCE
Patience and persistence will get you where you need to go. Always remember that
it is never necessary to get loud or angry at your dog. This will hinder
training. Now let’s get started!
